Local partners USC and ASOPORCEL contributed to an interactive activity on digital tools for agroecology, fusing traditional knowledge and new technologies
The series of G-Night activities continue to provide a window for the public to approach novel practices and solutions in rural areas. GREENCOOP contributed to the present edition by making knowledge more accessible beyond academic and research environments, using a digital setting to enhance the awareness on the connections within their territory. It did so in an environment that combined experimentation, observation and direct interaction, for all kinds of backgrounds and ages.
Focusing on the various benefits of celtic pork grazing, the demonstration employed an immersive experience to insert the visitors in the agroforest system, just as GREENCOOP integrates local, tacit knowledge with advances in digital tools. The activities showcased are linked to the Demonstrator on land use, which combine digital fencing and GPS collars to manage extensive livestock grazing. This combined effort is led by NEIKER with the support of the local partners ASOPORCEL and USC.
GREENCOOP was hosted by project SUS-SOIL, which organised the workshop ‘What lies beneath your feet?’. Visitors of all ages were able to discover the often unseen processes taking place beneath the surface, and why they matter for healthy and sustainable ecosystems. The activity also offered an opportunity to introduce its novel approach to soil health, connecting scientific research with real-world environmental challenges and showing how understanding what happens in soils can contribute to more sustainable land management.
Aside from these closely linked projects, the event also demonstrated the value of bringing diverse research initiatives together to raise awareness on the complexity, but also the vitality, of our rural communities. Among them were several European projects coordinated by or involving USC, including RePowerSiC, REMOVIRT H3D, and GOOD, highlighting how research and innovation are addressing challenges across different areas of society and the environment.
Held at the Municipal Market in Lugo, the G-Night brought together a wide range of scientific projects and initiatives, creating a continuous stage where attendees could discover different areas of research in an accessible and engaging way.
